    Dear Washington Gas Customers,

Equifax has provided the update listed below concerning their recent data breach. Based on their update, the core credit database that Washington Gas utilizes was not impacted.

    From Equifax:

As you are already aware, Equifax had a cybersecurity incident potentially impacting approximately 143 million U.S. consumers. Criminals exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files. Equifax discovered the unauthorized access and acted immediately to stop the intrusion. Equifax promptly engaged a leading, independent cybersecurity firm that has been conducting a comprehensive forensic review to determine the scope of the intrusion, including the specific data impacted. Equifax also reported the criminal access to law enforcement and continue to work with authorities.

    Key impact for you:

    • Core credit database was not impacted. The system that Washington Gas utilizes has no evidence of cybersecurity breach.
    • A dedicated website has been established, www.equifaxsecurity2017.com, to help consumers determine if their information has been potentially impacted and to sign up for credit file monitoring and identity theft protection. This is being offered complimentary for one year to all U.S. consumers.
    • A dedicated call center has been established at 866-447-7559 to assist consumers. The call center is open every day (including weekends) from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Eastern.
    • Equifax states that the issue has been contained.

Washington Gas recommends that you continue to monitor your private information with other vendors and services with whom you do business, as well as monitor your credit through the other two credit bureaus, Experian and Trans Union.
